THE ART OF NECKTIE SELECTION

It's a shame neckties don't come with manual, many men are lost and confused when it comes to choosing a necktie. They assume all neckties are the same, choosing the cheapest one available while disregarding things like color coordination, size and material. If you don’t consider these elements when choosing a necktie, though, you’ll probably end up with the wrong one. And the wrong necktie will create an unflattering look that takes away from your entire outfit.
It goes without saying that a right tie completes a man's outfit and can literally work wonders. Suppose you see a man, an anchor, a businessman, or a politician on the TV; ask yourself what draws your attention first of all? I bet your answer is “their face.” What is the next – their tie?
In this post, we've put together things you should consider when choosing your tie.

1. The Color
A red neck tie combines well with almost any suit and shirt, but will be especially great match for a darker suit and white, blue or gray dress shirts.
A light blue tie as all other neck ties of light colors, refreshes, so to say, lightens a darker suit and it is especially good for receptions, networking events and similar circumstances.
Navy blue tie perfectly combines with all other colors intrinsic to a classic business costume. Darker suits become overly with such neck ties making a person wearing it look solid and conservative.Various patterns on a base of such color can be a good choice, for they make a neck tie overall more lively yet formal enough, which is perfect for various business occasions.
Brown ties are considered more casual, which means they should be preferably worn in a business casual environment. The problem is that they are really hard to match with anything unless you have a huge selection of suits and dress shirts.
Black ties are worn either in the evening with a tuxedo or, all the time, by waiters in restaurants and on the occasion of funeral. Thus, if it is not one of these cases, avoid wearing a black tie.
White ties are worn in court by judges, lawyers and defenders; so if you are none of them and it is not the occasion, white joins black in the list of neck tie colors to be avoided.
Multicolored ties is the distinctive feature of those men who want and dare to stand out from the crowd. These ties accentuate your individuality, mood and good taste. Make sure though not to stray too far from business classics in order not to run the risk of being everybody’s clown

Something you should avoid is wearing the same color necktie as your shirt.

2. The Pattern
If you want to create a slightly different look, you can always opt for a necktie with a pattern or some other design. Plaid is an excellent pattern that works particularly well with similar plaid suits. Pinstripe is another great choice, although it’s better suited for plaid suits. You can even find neckties available in polka-dot designs — a design that’s become increasingly popular among fashion-forward men in the last few years. Just remember to choose a pattern or design that flows cohesively with the rest of your suit outfit.

3. Tie Length and Width
Once the necktie is around your neck, however, it should stop around your belt. If your necktie stops above your pants, it’s too short. Or if your necktie stops below your belt, it’s too long.
So, how wide should your necktie be? Well, it depends on your body shape and size. 2.5 inches is the average width of a skinny type, making it the preferred choice for men with slimmer figures. But if you have a typical body shape and size, you’ll probably want a necktie that’s just a little wider, such as 3 inches. This seems to be a happy medium that works well for most men. On the other hand, though, larger men should wear a wider necktie, such as the 3.25 to 3.5-inch styles.

4. Fabric
While there are many different fabric of neckties, there’s simply no other fabric that compares to a 100% silk necktie, as it offers an unmatched level of style and aesthetics. The only downside is that silk neckties tend to cost a bit more than others. So if you’re on a budget and don’t have a lot of money to spend, you may want to choose a different type.
